Hey guys!
The Gingerbread Pueblos were fantastic! Props to all of you who could get yours to stay standing. I hope you enjoyed it, and I appreciate everyone being responsible for bringing their stuff to make the pueblos.
I hope you guys will have a fantastic winter break!
Also, we are not going to do the Empanada Order after all, seeing as how few people were interested. No worries.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 6th. See you there!

Spanish Club Info 12/9/08
Hey Spanish Club Members!!
We decided a lot of things today at the meeting. First of all, we are going to build Gingerbread Pueblos next Tuesday during lunch in room J7. If you want to make one, please bring supplies (graham crackers, frosting, and candy) for your house. We will supply the cleaning supplies. Please remember that it may get messy, and you should be prepared for that. Let me know if you want to do it!
These people volunteered to bring supplies for the houses:
Graham Crackers: Cody, Spencer, Mick, Robyn
Frosting: Mark, Michelle, Ashley, Carlos
Candy: Ashley, Cody
(sorry if I mispelled anyone's names!!)
We are also going to celebrate the holidays with an Empanada party on Friday, December 19th in room J7 at lunch. If you want to order an empanada, please let me know how many and what kind. They are $3.50 dollars each and they come in beef and chicken. If you want one, you need to email me or let me know by next Tuesday, and pay me by next Tuesday at the latest.
We went through a lot of information concerning the soup kitchen service project, and will continue looking up the specifics for the completion of the project in February.
Our next fiesta will be after Winter Break, and we will be heading out to El Misti for our second dinner over Winter Break. Keep paying attention to the emails for news.

Meeting Info 12/2/08
Hey guys,
So at our last meeting on Tuesday, 12/2/08, we decided that we are going to start looking into different soup kitchens and homeless shelters where we can volunteer. This will probably all happen in February, so there's plenty of time to sign up. If you want to receive a CERTIFICATE at the end of the year from the club showing that you participated for a certain amount of hours, you must sign up and participate.
I have asked EVERYONE in the club to bring the name, number, and info for at least one soup kitchen/homeless shelter in our area, so that we can start deciding when and where. Please don't forget!!
We will probably be having a luncheon around the time of Winter Break, so keep your ears open.
See you next Tuesday at lunch! Room J7.

Spanish Club Lunch over Thanksgiving Break!
Hey Spanish Club Members,
We had our first lunch on Monday, November 24, at Acapulco Restaurants. The food was good, and we had a fun time together. Thanks to those of you who came for remembering!
On the Tuesday we return from Break, we will begin our first community service project of the year. We are going to collect food items, old clothing, and old toys/books to donate to homeless shelters for the holidays. On Tuesday, we will be decorating collection boxes and making signs to hang around campus. The more people that help, the faster and more effective we will be. Hope to see you there!

Meeting Info 10/14/08
Hey Spanish Club Members!!
I am so proud of you guys for being so productive today!
We decided that for our first community service project, we are going to work towards hosting and publicizing a fund raiser at a Hispanic Restaurant in order to raise money for Mike Fisher, who suffers from cancer of the brain. Because he doesn't want to risk going blind from chemo, he is trying a radical new treatment that his insurance won't pay for. He needs to raise $50,000 in order to pay for the treatment, and we want to help!
Please pay attention to the blog and your emails for the dates, times, and ways you can help!
Also, we decided to have a luncheon next Tuesday during lunch, in Room B10. Cost is $3 per plate, and we will have tons of delicious foods, such as chicken, quesadillas, horchata, and more. First come, first sirve!!
See you all next week!

Meeting 10/7
Hey Guys!
We had fun today. We ate chips and salsa, and started up on our ideas for a community service project. So far, all I have is that we might volunteer in a place that allows for us to talk to Spanish speaking people, or we will collect supplies for donation to areas that need it. If you have ideas, please come to the next meeting with them!!
On Tuesday, 10/14/08, we will begin looking at the Peruvian culture. We will also look at dates for our first dinner, and discuss the luncheon we will be hosting the following Tuesday (10/21). Please come prepared to share and discuss!!
We will also being offering free tutoring to students on Tuesday 10/14. If you need tutoring, or want to help tutor, please come to the meeting!
See you then!

First Meeting 9/30/08
Hey Spanish Club Members!!
Our first meeting, despite being a little small, was a success! Those of you who came found out what to expect from the club this year. Here's a recap:
We will have 1-2 luncheons (where leadership brings in food and members pay $3 per plate) per month.
We will try to have 4-5 dinners this year. Last year we tried Peruvian, Mexican, Argentinean, and other types of food. We hope to get an equal diversity this year as well!!
We are still accepting suggestions for our community service project. We want to do something that will either directly help the community around us, or in the long term, residents of a spanish speaking country around the world. Some ideas already are: raising funds to help the Red Cross in that country, collecting canned foods for donation, collecting old clothes for donation, and volunteering at hospitals and talking to spanish speaking patients. If you have any ideas, please bring them to the next meeting or let me know by email!!!
If you want tutoring from the members of Spanish Club, please come to the next meeting with your homework, tests, etc., prepared. We will group students from the same class with a member of Spanish club who tutors and start on a weekly basis.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at RobynMonroe@gmail.com

The restaurant is named Costa Azul, and it is at the corner of Fairview Street and Warner Avenue in Santa Ana (approx. 20 minutes drive from school). The dinner will start at 7:00pm. Meeting Date Changes
Hey Spanish Club Members!
Meetings are now changed to every Tuesday at lunch. We are giving up on Mondays because there are too many mondays off, and it disrupts our schedule.
Also, please pay attention to the announcments. Most of the information on dates and events is in the announcements, so listen up!
We are planning a big event over Spring Break. It will be somewhere in the second half of the week. Please keep your schedules open!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or Justin.

Peruvian Kitchen Dinner
Hola Miembros del Club de Espanol!!!
Our dinner at Peruvian Kitchen on Wednesday, January 2, was fantastic. This is not our first time to Peruvian Kitchen, so we knew what to expect. The food was great, and although rather different, very exciting. Many thanks to the people who came: Justin Thomas, Jackie Le, Laura Sack, Michael Rushman, Michelle Monroe, John Kauppi, and Megan Gilbert. I certainly hope you guys had fun, because I really did.
To all of the members who did not come-I am sorry. You missed out. Even so, you can make up for it by coming to the next one!!! Pay attention to the blog and the announcements for information.
Remember! Meetings are still going on every Monday at lunch in room B10. We are going to talk about possible public service opportunities. Also, we will begin our traditional salsa dancing lessons! Those will not start until after finals, but it will certainly be worthwhile for all of those brave enough to participate!!
Muchas Gracias,
Robyn
